As Rainmakers, we know the importance of having easy access to a good source of passive income. Sometimes, you just don’t have time to jump through hoops or fill out a complicated registration form. Fortunately, there are still plenty of ways to make money. We’re sitting down with one of our own success stories, Kamdon Callaway, and we’ve gathered some of her tips on how to make money off Amazon.
There are so many different ways that you can start making money off Amazon, but one of the fastest is through something known as KDP or Kindle Direct Publishing. This is Amazon’s awesome printing service, which will create and bind books for you. This means that you don’t have to worry about inventory, shipping, or fees. When someone buys your book, you get the profits immediately! Amazon does the rest for you, including printing, binding, and shipping the product.
Unlike other options, Amazon’s KDP marketplace allows you to get paid and start selling in as little as 3–5 days.
One of the biggest misconceptions that Callaway says she sees is that you have to have an “actual book” to sell something on the Kindle marketplace. This isn’t true!
As an artist, Calloway has sold thousands of plain notebooks and journals. She did little more than design the cover and create a simple lined page layout. Amazon handled the rest!
Callaway owes most of her success to the widespread ambiguity of Amazon. Its Kindle marketplace is massive, and millions of people use its platform every day. As such, even a simple lined notebook will get a few hundred hits without much work. Of these, a few people are bound to purchase the item.
In addition to plain notebooks, Callaway sells diaries, drawing books, and coloring books. These are, of course, just a few different ideas. You can also create specific purpose-built notebooks for whatever you may need. If, for example, you’re an accountant, you may wish that you had a book for tracking transactions. The good news is that someone else has undoubtedly had this idea, and you can be the one to make the product. All you have to do is upload the appropriate files.
Maybe you have an idea, but you don’t quite know how to create the end product. You don’t have to be a computer genius or graphic designer to jump into KDP, either. These days, there are dozens of sites, such as Fiver, which offer you the ability to hire someone to do the hard work for you.
Let’s say that you wanted to make a planner. Unfortunately, you’re not too savvy with Photoshop. You don’t have to invest in an expensive program or class to start making money. Instead, you can invest in a one-time fee and hire an expert to create the product for you. Once it’s done, you can upload the files to your KDP account and get selling!
In fact, there are also ways to get useful pre-made templates for all of your KDP needs. You can purchase these online, or you can do a bit of sleuthing and find some for free online. Of course, you’ll still have to do a little bit of work and research. While you’ll make a nice bit of money selling basic notebooks, you’ll probably want to branch out. Dig into the internet and find out what people are talking about. Maybe they need specific daily planners for tracking their exercise routines, or they want a journal that has a special space for daily affirmations.
Much of Callaway’s success comes from knowing what to sell and who to market it to. It’s not enough to slap a planning notebook onto the Kindle marketplace; you need to really push it! Find the right niche, the right use, and the right people, and you can start making tons of money with very little effort.
