Setting Goals for Success: The Power of Envisioning your Future

As part of our ongoing effort to make sure that our Rainmaker Family is on the road to success and generational wealth, we’ve taken time to chat with Madelyn Hansen. With her help, we’ve compiled a handy guide for how you can best set and achieve your life goals.

Join us as we discuss why goal setting is important for success!

Know Your Why

The most important part of goal setting is knowing your “why.” When you discuss how to set goals, you need to talk about the reason that you’re working so hard.

For Madelyn, her “why” was her lifelong goal of owning a $1,000,000 vacation house by the time she was 40. Knowing why you have set your goal is just as important as setting the goal. From here, short-term goals, performance goals, and other action plans can set effective paths forward to achievement.

To help you reach your goal, Madelyn suggests making your  “why” a central part of your process. When she created her business, she named it after her dream vacation home, and this reminded her every day about her goal.

Work with Others

Another part of why setting a goal is important is the ability to connect with others. When you set a goal, you commit yourself to the mindset of living for the completion of that goal.

If you’re looking to lose weight, you’ll be thinking about fitness and health throughout your daily activities, for example. As Rainmakers, our goals revolve around our families and futures.

Once you’ve made a goal, start reaching out to find like-minded people that can help you stay focused on your big goals. These same people will be there to celebrate your small successes and assist you when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

They serve the unique purpose of being able to both champion and encourage you to adjust your goals when needed.

For Madelyn, she found “her people” with us in Rainmakers! With the help of our amazing community, she built her own business and used her wealth to finally meet her goal of buying that dream vacation home.

Remind Yourself of Your Goals

One of the most important parts of having an effective goal is constantly reminding yourself of what you’re working towards. Whether you want more time with your friends and family or you want a source of income that will be there for your kids when you’re gone, your goal is your rock.

When things get tough, your defined goals will be what keep you going.

Madelyn started her journey just as the pandemic took off. This meant that she found herself in the middle of an unprecedented event, and her original plans were quickly proven inefficient. Instead of giving up, she reminded herself of her goal.

She kept thinking of the amazing beach house that she was going to own by the time she was 40, and she kept pushing!

Let Your Goals Push You

Sometimes, goals will start to take their own role in your version of a good life. For Madelyn, her original plan wasn’t working out. She was rapidly approaching 40, and none of the available beach houses were within her budget. However, as a Rainmaker, she knew better than to give up.

Instead, she let her goals push her to dream even bigger!

Madelyn started to look at vacation homes that were outside of her budget. These amazing properties were places that, at one point, she could never dream of owning. Now, through the help of the Rainmaker community, she knew that she had the power to push for those lofty goals!

When you have goals, you also have the power to adjust them as needed. Madelyn learned this the best way possible: she pushed herself to do even more and adjusted her dream to be even harder to reach.

Your goals aren’t there as rigid guidelines, and it’s important to remember that you can use them to push yourself even harder. Take your big, specific goals and go about setting life goals, and turn those life goals into dreams!

Never Stop Making Goals

Finally, Madelyn’s biggest piece of advice is to never stop making goals. Even if you achieve your lifetime goal, you still have plenty of things to do!

Maybe it’s a new hobby, activity, or business that gives you even more space for personal development, and you can use that experience to keep building your life higher and better. Whatever it is, you’re not done growing, take a deep breath and feel good knowing you’ve crossed another off the life goals list. The importance of a goal extends far beyond simply achieving it.
