4 Powerful Tips to Create an Abundant Mindset

We’ve talked many times about how an abundant mindset is such an important part of the entrepreneurial journey. But as you probably know, creating and having a strong abundance mindset isn’t always easy! Today, we’re going to be sharing powerful strategies to develop an abundant mindset that will carry you through the toughest parts of your entrepreneurship. Let’s dive in!

Today’s tips come from our friend Melissa Busch Mejia. She’s part of our Rainmaker inner circle and has an amazing attitude towards abundance and overcoming limited beliefs that may be holding you back. So much of the way we deal with money and think about money has to do with our mindset. When we have a good money mindset, there’s no limit to what we can accomplish!

1. Rethink the Pie

Growing up in the US, a lot of us have what we call a poverty mindset around things like money and success. We often picture it as a limited capacity– we think of it like a pie. If I get a bigger piece, then there’s less left for you, and that creates this false idea of scarcity.

The truth is that surrounding yourself with successful people and moving in entrepreneurial circles can protect your mindset. Interacting with people with a positive abundant mindset influences your own mindset.

Success and wealth aren’t limited. There are no finite amounts. Everybody can have as much of that proverbial pie as they want, so don’t focus on what other people are doing. Instead, focus on what you can do.

2. Face Your Fears

Fear and self-doubt are possibly the biggest money blocks we experience. Maybe you’ve felt it when you’re making a big inventory order or investment. Our instinct to feel fear and guard our money is automatic.

But you can overcome fear by literally talking to yourself! It might seem silly, but saying out loud that your brain doesn’t need to be in defense mode can make a huge difference.

The next time you find yourself in a scarcity mindset, try some powerful positive self-talk and practice gratitude towards your instincts. Thank your brain for sending the indicators to help you stay safe. Then, acknowledge that you really are ok to make the step. This helps retrain your brain to realize that you don’t have to be afraid of making money moves.

3. Use Your Words

The way we talk is a massive part of our mindset. Some people think that mindset is something you work on that’s completely separate from your business, but the reality is that your everyday decisions contribute to the way you think and feel. Look for the positive in everything you do, and focus on that. Even if it’s not your favorite thing to do, there’s bound to be something that you can focus on and create gratitude around.

For example, if you have to respond to 25 emails, think about what the experience allows you to get to do. You have to respond to those emails, but you get to share breakthrough information and knowledge. You have to work, but you get to invest in your business and you get to say yes to your dreams and financial goals.

Melissa points out that these little hacks are a way to get yourself into action. It’s not just positive thinking– it’s creating positivity around action. It’s a way to hack your brain into a healthier and abundant mindset!

4. Take A Deep Breath

Another way you can make a breakthrough when fear is holding you back is to make a physical change. When you go from a peaceful state to a state of nervousness or fear, your body experiences physical changes.

The very first thing you’ll notice is that you begin to breathe faster. As the negative thoughts start coming, simply stop and breathe. Take six deep breaths, in and out. (We don’t know why six is the magic number, but it works!)

The reason that deep breathing works is because it’s a way to take back control of your mind. The human mind often loves to ruminate on worst-case scenarios. But the reality is that most worst-case scenarios never play out. We need to learn how to retrain our minds not to take the worst-case scenario and run with it.

This is where deep breathing really helps, because it changes the way you physically feel. It forces you to slow down and gives you the time to affirm your truth. By telling yourself that you can overcome fear and self-doubt, you give yourself the strength and the tools to make that a reality.
